CALL FOR MUTUAL AID

Many graduate students across Canada live paycheque to paycheque or go into debt every passing month.  Those who are not currently in graduate school or are not familiar with this type of student likely aren't aware of how dire circumstances are. Government scholarships for grad students in science programs have not increased since 2003, despite the cost of living skyrocketing.

Graduate students in science programs are the backbone of scientific research in Canada, and many of us are suffering.

A dear friend of mine is a PhD candidate in a science program. They are one of the hardest working and kindest people I know. This student is a victim of awful circumstances created by the university and their advisor. Due to a mistake on a form that they didn't even fill out themselves, the university slightly overpaid them from Sept-Nov 2023.

The university is demanding the money back, telling my friend that they simply will not be paid from January - April in 2024.

My friend does not have enough savings to get through the winter (very few of us graduate students would).

Please consider purchasing a raffle ticket to support my friend. 100% of funds raised will go directly to them.
